It had now been seven years since the sand of the battlefield streamed between gaps of my toes. And I was happy, but a part of me was still lost from that day. The things I saw, the things I experienced, were not of my world or yours—and in a world so different, it was a surprise I could even breathe. People where I lived would always talked about how much they’d love to travel, the souvenirs and the food they’d collect—but if you ever bared witness to the things I’ve seen, your heart would probably turn inside out—turning you back to your home, to the place you once evaded—only for a moment of what you felt would be peace or paradise. I wasn’t always like this. I used to be free, I used to be graceful, yet grateful of this life—especially when I was amongst the others. People today would call it conformity, but it wasn’t it all like that—we were a family. We gathered food together, we traveled together, we played together, and most of the time, laughed together—it was truly an artistic life, one that I never wished the paintbrush to leave.
